A high-fidelity half day workshop running through CICO scenarios on anaesthetised sheep at the Royal Perth Wet lab.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to practice cannula and scalpel bougie techniques under highly realistic conditions.  Limited numbers available. Central Venous Access Workshop

Best practice has led to the development of specialised central venous access teams in hospitals.  This workshop aims to address a number of systemic central line issues in hospitals as well as approaches to insertion and maintenance of central lines with a heavy focus on PICC’s. This workshop will focus on ultrasound basics, choosing the right venous access, insertion techniques & PICC/midline varieties, reducing emotional stress around PICCs for patients, infection prevention & tip navigation with ECG. 

Lung Isolation in Children

Thoracoscopic work in children is an increasing trend in paediatric surgery. As a result so is the request for lung isolation! What can we do? This workshop will explore options available and specifically explore tips and tricks on placing bronchial blocker in young children. We will have a hands-on demo to place a bronchial blocker via conventional as well as unconventional methods.

Ex – prem neonate for incarcerated inguinal hernia with pulmonary hypertension

Join this interactive PBLD focusing on specific aspects of management of the neonate in theatre. We hope this PBLD will generate discussion on varying practices and approaches across institutions.  The facilitators have extensive experience in neonatal and paediatric cardiac anaesthesia.

Swan Valley Wine Tour

ANZCA Non-Technical Skills

Workshop Facilitator: Dr Angela Palumbo

Many anaesthetists are familiar with the Anaesthesia Non-Technical Skills (ANTS) behavioural marker system for the assessment of non-technical skills.  However, incorporating the use of ANTS into our daily practice is often felt to be difficult.  This workshop is designed to help assessors and supervisors observe and recognise non-technical skills in their trainees and colleagues, and empower them to use the ANTS framework for feedback.  The workshop is small-group, intensive and practical, and utilises video-based scenarios for practice in recognising ANTS behaviours
ANZCA accredited for CPD points.

ANZCA CPD – Anaphylaxis/Cardiac Arrest

Paediatric Airway Workshop

This interactive hands on workshop is aimed at the part time paediatric anaesthetist, GP anaesthetist and anaesthesia registrar.  The workshop will cover difficult airway strategies, common airway emergencies, video laryngoscopes in paediatrics as well as discussions around interesting and challenging airway cases.

Paediatric Regional Ultrasound (CPD available)

Workshop Facilitator: Prof Krishna Boddu & Prof Corrie Anderson

Come along to this very detailed and hands on workshop for upskilling in regional paediatric  anaesthesia & ultrasound.  Prof Boddu, the workshop convener has over 5 years of experience at the Seattle Childrens Hospital in regional paediatric anaesthesia & ultrasound.  This workshop will focus on upper limb, truncal and lower limb blocks.  Plenty of hands on experience with real models is a feature of this workshop.  In addition there will be general information on safety and complications of regional anaesthesia in children as well as how to go about setting up a service at your hospital.

Emergency appendicectomy for child with a fontan circulation

These patients are becoming an increasing cohort in the after hours setting and in the non-tertiary paediatric hospital setting.  This PBLD will explore the physiological considerations in providing anaesthesia for these patients. 

Effective pain modalities in the day case setting – don’t let this hold up discharge!

The focus of this PBLD is effective & safe analgesia modalities in the paediatric day case setting.  The use of opioids in simple airway surgery will be covered and their safety profile for discharge on day of surgery.

Zoo Visit

Participants will be transported to the Perth Zoo for a 2 hour behind the scenes presentation & look at veterinary medicine & anaesthesia. Depending on caseload available participants may witness hands on demonstrations.
