If you're arriving into Canberra early, or plan to stay on after the conference, here are some suggested activities, tours and attractions.

Australian War Memorial

The Australian War Memorial is one of Canberra's top attractions, commemorating the Australian men and women who have sacrificed their life serving the nation, as well as those who continue to serve today. Surrounding the courtyard you’ll see the Roll of Honour inscribed with more than 102,000 names of those who have died serving since 1885 and decorated with bright red poppies from visitors paying their respects.

National Museum of Australia

From its setting on the Acton Peninsula, the National Museum of Australia is the place to learn all about Australia’s past, present and future. Home to an incredible array of artefacts, the museum is great for all ages, offering interactive ways to get involved. Take a walk through the Garden of Australian Dreams to explore place and country, or join one of the guided tours for a deeper insight into this brilliant museum.

Questacon

While Questacon may have been created with kids in mind, it’s a place where everyone can come and experience the weird, wonderful and wacky world of science and technology. The vast array of interactive exhibits and demonstrations is designed to pique and satisfy your curiosity. Conduct an experiment in the Q Lab, explore the red landscape of Mars, and watch explosive experiments take place in Questacon’s unmissable Spectacular Science Show.

Hot Air Balloon

Board a hot air balloon in Canberra and float right over Australia's capital city! Be sure to look out to the rolling mountains, as you see it all from a bird’s eye point of view. Taking off at Dawn you rise above Canberra’s unique city design which slowly unfolds beneath you. Experience the peace and tranquillity of lighter than air flight over one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Gently descend back to earth and celebrate your adventure with a glass of bubbly.

Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve

Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is home to a wide range of Australian animals living in diverse sub-alpine habitats including wetlands, grasslands, forests and woodlands. These habitats support a wide range of wildlife including, kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, platypus, potoroos, bandicoots, wallaroos, echidnas, emus, lyrebirds as well as many other birds and reptiles. The Reserve is open from 7:30am to 6:00pm every day.

National Arboretum Canberra

The National Arboretum Canberra is a mosaic of living forests and gardens offering breath taking views, unique experiences, and a world-class entertainment and events hub including the award-winning Margaret Whitlam Pavilion and the popular Village Centre. With over 44,000 rare and endangered trees across a 250-hectare site, the Arboretum is a place of beauty, conservation, science research, education, tourism and recreation.
