Pain Open Forum

Thursday 30th August

A/Prof Greta Palmer:  Tapentadol in children and adolescents
Dr Jordan Wood: Slow release opioids for acute pain management in light of the recent Faculty of Pain Medicine Position Statement
Dr Paul McCallum: Challenges facing the staff anaesthetist occasionally allocated to the acute pain round.

The above talks will be followed by discussion.

Cardiac Open Forum

Thursday 30th August
1100 - 1230
Facilitator: Ian McKenzie (Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne)

This interactive discussion is open to all registrants and will include a wide variety of topics pertinent to cardiac anaesthesia, including fast track protocols, nitric oxide on bypass, central venous access in patients with single ventricles, the challenges of managing children with cardiac disease for non-cardiac surgery in non-specialist centres and more.

Airway Open Forum

Friday 31st August
1510 - 1640
Facilitators: Andrew Weatherall, Helen McPhee, Kat Lanigan (The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney)

This session is open to all registrants and will be an interactive session drawing on the collective expertise of all those present in managing challenging paediatric airways. Cases will be used to generate discussion and maybe even some controversy. Airway management will be discussed from the perspective of not only for those in large paediatric centres but also those practitioners in more remote locations.
