Dr Joseph Cravero - was trained initially as a pediatrician and practiced as a general pediatrician for four years in the army.   He later completed training in anesthesiology at the Hartford Hospital/University of Connecticut.   As a result, he has spent the bulk of his career on issues where these two specialties meet.   His primary clinical role is as a pediatric anesthesiologist and he is now the Milton H. Alper Chair of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Director of Perioperative Outcomes Research at Boston Children’s Hospital.   Until November of 2012 Dr. Cravero was Director, Pediatric Anesthesiology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, which includes the Pediatric Perioperative Program.   Not long after arriving at DHMC, he founded the Pediatric PainFree program that provides all sedation and pain control services for children undergoing diagnostic and/or minor procedures in the medical center.  He directed the Pediatric Perioperative Program, which manages all perioperative programs in children from preadmission counseling to discharge planning.  This service model has now been adopted across the country and internationally.
