INVITATION TO ATTEND
It is with great delight that we welcome you to the SPANZA Annual Scientific Meeting that will be held for the first time in the Top End in 2018. In 2018, the conference will be brought forward to August, to allow you to enjoy the beautiful dry season here in the tropical city of Darwin.
We have a range of international and local speakers to deliver our program, entitled “Bite-sized Anaesthesia”. However, we hope the only thing that ‘bites’ is the content of our program (and perhaps a local Barra if you get the chance!) We hope to showcase some of the differences of delivering paediatric anaesthesia in a remote location, as well as globally important topics such as Developing World Anaesthesia. There will be sessions catering for all paediatric anaesthetists, whether you are working in a large city hospital, or a smaller regional centre.
We invite you to take the opportunity to attend the UK-based POEMS course (Positive Outcome and Experience Management Strategies) for those interested in effective management of anxiety in children peri-operatively. This course will be held the day before the main SPANZA program, and facilitators from Great Ormond St in London will be delivering this course for the first time in Australia.
The social program will cater for everyone – with chances to visit the famous local markets, the welcome drinks at Parliament House and the conference dinner at Pee Wee’s at East Point overlooking the Timor Sea. Why not make it a holiday? Darwin is a family-friendly city, in close proximity to beautiful national parks, including the world-famous Kakadu National Park, with indigenous art, culture and an outdoor lifestyle.
