Wieland Kiess, MD, Professor of Pediatrics, specialized in Pediatric Endocrinology and Pediatric Diabetes. Since 1998 Prof. Kiess has been the director of the Hospital for Children and Adolescents of the University of Leipzig, Germany. From 2002 till 2005 he served as the Dean of the Medical School of the University of Leipzig. From 2009 till 2012 he was also the head of the Department of Women and Child Health of the University Hospital of the University of Leipzig.  Prof. Kiess has served as President of the European Society Pediatric Endocrinology in 2012, President of the German Diabetes Association from 2002 till 2005, President of the Annual Meeting of the German Diabetes Association in 2006, President of the Annual Meeting of the German Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine in 2002 and President of the Annual Meeting of the German Obesity Society in 2015.

Prof. Kiess has authored and coauthored more than 700 peer reviewed articles and 25 books. His major interests include research on growth, IGF-signaling, obesity, diabetes in children and adolescents as well as the implementation of care for children and adolescents with chronic diseases. Prof. Kiess  is editor in chief of the Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism and of Obesity Medicine, a recent scientific journal of Elsevier. He also serves on a number of additional editorial boards and has received research  grants from the European Union, the German Research Society and German Diabetes Association and many other institutions and charities. Since 2014 he is also a Foreign Adjunct Professor at the Karolinska Hospital, Department of Women and Child Health, Stockholm, Sweden, and in 2012 was a visiting professor at the Royal ChildrenĀ“s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia.
