This course covers hazardous materials including insecticides, corrosives, irritant gases, asphyxiants, hydrocarbons and substituted hydrocarbons, and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear agents. Specific antidotes and their indications, contraindications, dosing, and route are also included.

Toxic Issues in the ED is a state of the art 2-day educational course exploring key topics in the management of acute poisoning including the critically unwell poisoned patient, the Toxic ECG, acid-base ‘must knows’ in poisoning and envenomation.
First ran in Newcastle, New South Wales in 2008 it was later adopted by and became a regular feature of the TAPNA Inc. (www.tapna.org.au ) annual scientific meeting workshop programme. Following a post pandemic hiatus, toxic issues returned with an evolving, revised and modernised format in May 2025 after the TAPNA Inc. ASM in Wellington, New Zealand.
Aimed at frontline ED/critical care/acute care clinicians in Australia/New Zealand, the course will be presented by a faculty of Toxicology experts, all currently in active practice within Toxicology services and poisons information centres across Australasia. It will utilise interactive case discussions, low fidelity simulation and other modern educational technologies.
