ANZSPM 2024 BIENNIAL CONFERENCE
5 - 8 September 2024 ~ Adelaide, South Australia
30 YEARS OF PALLIATIVE MEDICINE: CONSTRUCTING, CHALLENGING, TRANSFORMING

INVITATION TO ATTEND

The Australian and New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine 2024 conference will be held in leafy Adelaide between Thursday September 5th and Sunday 8th September 2024.

This will be the 30th anniversary of the first ANZSPM meeting. I am delighted on behalf of the ANZSPM 2024 Conference Organising Committee and the ANZSPM President and the ANZSPM Board to welcome you to this very special and exciting meeting.

Our theme is “30 Years of Palliative Medicine: Constructing, Challenging, Transforming.” We look forward to 4 days with international and national plenary speakers, workshops, invited and offered papers and posters, a trainee day, and satellite sessions, all surrounded with fun, fellowship and learning. We are looking forward to celebrating the Australian and the New Zealand components of our Society, as well as the adult and paediatric challenges of our work. ANZSPM conferences have travelled all around our countries and Adelaide last was the site of the 2012 conference. Much of our organisation’s origins started with the charismatic pioneers in Adelaide. I was a part of organising the 2012 meeting, and the ANZSPM 2024 Organising Committee is relishing the opportunity to deliver a conference and cultural experience to enhance your knowledge and spirit, and to return you to your workplaces refreshed and invigorated.

The age of 30 suggests maturity and a time in life when one has some insights and experience but there is still much to learn and room for further maturity and growth, but also a chance to reflect on one’s development and past achievements. We hope that this meeting will bring together our shared desire to provide high-quality, compassionate, person and family centred care for all people facing the approaching end of their lives in a changing environment, and reinforce and invigorate your passion for this work.

And, for those with the opportunity, there are so many wonderful short or longer tourist options including the delights of Adelaide’s Art Gallery, Museum, State Library, markets and shopping as well as the exceptional array of fine and casual dining and of course visits to Kangaroo Island, Flinders Ranges and the wine areas of Adelaide Hills, Barossa, Clare, McLaren Vale and more.

We look forward to welcoming you to Adelaide in person in September 2024.

With kindest regards,

Prof Greg Crawford AM

National Wine Centre of Australia

Situated on the edge of Adelaide's stunning Botanic Gardens the centre combines eye-catching architecture with smooth functionality to create an exciting tourism venue. The National Wine Centre is a flagship of Australia’s internationally renowned wine industry, acting simultaneously as a cultural and education centre, and tourist attraction. The Centre contains an interactive museum, a comprehensive range of wine-tasting facilities, offices of Australian wine industry organisations and function spaces for events.

The Wine Centre’s form is partly inspired by segments of wine barrels and partly by the skeletal nature of winter vines. The layout of building components preserved significant trees on site, with new plantings carefully placed to focus views into the gardens. A range of landscape interventions were used to graduate the change from building edges to natural contours beyond the garden.
