TARGET AUDIENCE
The course is designed for anaesthetists and teams who care for children in the peri-operative setting. Anaesthetists will lead crisis-based scenarios in both theatre and PACU, with the help of their anaesthesia assistants and nursing staff in their own environments.
COURSE OBJECTIVE
Revise and practice peri-operative paediatric resuscitation with teams in their local environments.
PARTICIPANTS
The PACMaC course content can be tailored to suit the needs of the hospital and the time available. It applies to regional centres and private hospitals as well as tertiary paediatric facilities. The course content is suitable for the multidisciplinary peri-operative team which may include; anaesthetists, surgeons, anaesthesia assistants and nurses.
ANZCA CPD
All courses will be eligible for ANZCA CPD points under the Practice Evaluation (reviewing performance) team scenario section and Cardiac Arrest emergency response.
COURSE DETAILS:
Paediatric resuscitation refresher
CPR and IO workshop
5 to 6 immersive scenarios, each followed by a debrief
Scenarios will cover paediatric anaesthesia emergencies with both shockable and non-shockable aetiology
Participant maximum of 12 SMO (minimum of 5 SMO)/ 24 other staff (a mixture of anaesthesia assistants and nurses is desirable). More staff can be accommodated as observers at the discretion of the course faculty, provided the environment allows for this and staff are aware that although everyone will be involved in education, not everyone will be participating in the scenarios.
