Preparing for academic peer review: what do reviewers look for?
Time: 1000 - 1300
Fee: $20pp
Location: Online

This research-oriented workshop is for authors interested in improving their scientific writing.  The 3-hour workshop will explain what reviewers look for when examining a manuscript submitted to a journal.  It will suggest how to do justice to the hard work of designing and conducting a study by describing your research in a way that engages the audience to find out more. The workshop is suitable for anyone interested in improving the quality of their academic writing whether submitting a manuscript for publication in a peer reviewed journal, or an abstract to a conference. It will also suit anyone interested in contributing to the process of peer review by serving as a reviewer. The workshop is suitable for a range of skill levels. Participants will have the opportunity to practice reviewing and re-crafting a simulated manuscript. At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:
1. Identify potentially suitable target journals for your work
2. Describe the pathway for becoming a peer reviewer
3. Identify strengths and weaknesses of manuscripts that result in acceptance or rejection
Requirements: stable, high speed internet, own computer/laptop with camera and headset, quiet location.
