Melbourne is the coastal capital of the south-eastern Australian state of Victoria. ART GALLERIES

ACMI is the national museum of screen culture. You can navigate the world of film, TV, art and videogames daily, in the heart of Melbourne's CBD.

Open 364 days a year, ACMI is the most visited museum of its kind in the world. ACMI provides an immersive, fun-filled day out for all ages. Located in Fed Square, ACMI offers exhibitions, cinemas, an incredible gift shop, and a new destination dining experience, Hero, with Karen Martini at the helm. As the home of Melbourne's best and most popular film festivals, great Australian and international cinema, an annual calendar of talks and workshops, as well as the very best in contemporary art and screen culture. 

MELBOURNE AQUARIUM

QUEEN VICTORIA MARKET  

Queen Victoria Market is an authentic, bustling, inner-city market that has been the heart and soul of Melbourne for 140 years. Home to over 600 small businesses, it is a great place to discover fresh and specialty produce, hand-made and unique products, great coffee and food, souvenirs and clothing.

Shopping at the Market has always been one of life’s great pleasures. It is not just the abundance of fresh food, it’s the friendly banter with the traders, the vibrant and multicultural atmosphere, the special events and festivals, and the sense of belonging that comes with it.

While you’re here, make sure you visit String Bean Alley which is home to a colourful collection of Melbourne’s best independent makers, creators, designers and artists. 

 

MELBOURNE MUSEUM

A visit to Melbourne Museum is a rich insight into life in Victoria. It shows you Victoria's intriguing permanent collections and bring you brilliant temporary exhibitions from near and far. You'll see Victoria's natural environment, cultures and history through different perspectives.

The Melbourne Museum left its old home in the State Library Building in 1997, and into a building located in Carlton Gardens that was designed by Denton Corker Marshall. The new Melbourne Museum reopened on 21 October 2000.

Inside, you'll find the Forest Gallery, the living heart of the museum and home to tall trees and wondrous wildlife. The Science and Life Gallery at the west end, where you'll find bugs, dinosaurs, fossils and more.  

NGV

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is the oldest and most visited gallery in Australia. Situated over two magnificent buildings – NGV International and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia – the Gallery hosts a wide range of international and local artists, exhibitions, programs and events; from contemporary art to major international historic exhibitions, fashion and design, architecture, sound and dance.

Founded in 1861, today the NGV holds the most significant collection of art in the region; a vast treasury of more than 76,000 works that span thousands of years and a wealth of ideas, disciplines and styles. It is a collection that is yours, and it’s free! We warmly welcome you to share in these riches and the many activities, exhibitions and events developed at the NGV for us all to enjoy.
