ANZCA CPD EMERGENCY RESPONSE SESSIONS

Friday from 8:30am 

Facilitators: Faculty of the Hunter New England Simulation Centre

Two simulation sessions will be provided with each session lasting 2.5 hours.  Sessions will be held in the Hunter New England Simulation Centre on Level 1 at the Royal Newcastle Centre.  Participants will be able to fulfil the requirements of one or both of the following ANZCA CPD Category 3 Emergency Responses - Can’t Intubate, Can’t Oxygenate, or ‘CICO’, and Advanced Life Support in the peri-operative setting. A fee of $484* (including GST) per person per session will cover additional costs associated with the simulation sessions. Minimum and maximum numbers apply per session. 

*please note, this price is for HNE Health consultants and can be subsidised by JHH Department of Anaesthesia. Prices for other HNE staff and non-HNE staff will vary. Please refer to the links below for exact pricing information.

PROBLEM BASED LEARNING (PBL) SESSIONS

From 2pm until 5.30pm on Saturday 29th September, there will be numerous concurrent PBL's occurring at Noah's on the Beach for delegates. Each session will be 60 minutes, with some sessions being repeated to allow delegates to attend most sessions.To view the exact timings of each of the PBL's below, please refer to the program tab.

Thromboelastography PBL

Facilitator: Julian Baldwin with assistance from Haemonetics 
This learning experience will take the participants through the principles and practical aspects of TEG in relation to the bleeding patient.

Obstetrics PBL

Case based discussion of anaesthesia for the challenging obstetric patient

Paediatric PBL

Problem based discussion of core issues in paediatric anaesthesia for the non-subspecialist.

Anaesthesia for cataract surgery PBL

Acute Pain PBL

The problem of acute pain in the patient with complex chronic pain issues

OFFSITE WORKSHOPS

Saturday from 2.00 pm – 5.30pm.

Regional Anaesthesia Ultrasound Workshop

Facilitator: Mark Davies with the assistance of Steve Bruce & Berni Frost

An ultrasound for regional anaesthesia workshop will be held at The Royal Newcastle Centre level 2 on Saturday afternoon. The workshop will comprise three workstations with two topics each. Stations will last 45 minutes each. Afternoon tea will be provided. 

Workshop topics include: 

Neuraxial ultrasound - why not? 
Seeing in a snowstorm 
The fascia iliacus – a hippy thing 
The paravertebral space – comfortably numb 
The interscalene groove – an oldie but a goodie 
The adductor canal – while you’re down there
Opportunity will be provided for tuition in other regional anaesthesia techniques by request if time permits.

Registration will be limited to four registrants per station with a maximum number of twelve registrants for the workshop. Places will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.

A fee of $140 per person will cover additional costs associated with the workshop.

Echo Workshop

Facilitator: Rob McMonnies with the assistance of Sabry Eissa & Paul Healey

The Echo workshop is designed for the novice and occasional handler of the Echo probe. This will involve hands-on echocardiography, use of the Heartworks echocardiography simulator and review of pathology. 

The team are passionate about the role of echocardiography in critical care,and are experienced echocardiography educators. The small groups allow the time and practice that can be difficult to find in our busy daily practice! 

A fee of $140 per person will cover additional costs associated with the workshop. Minimum and maximum numbers apply.
