Toxic Issues in Acute Care Course 2016

What is Toxic Issues in Acute Care exactly?
Toxic Issues in Acute Care is a one day course examining selected, key topics in poisoning relevant to acute care practitioners.

So who is it geared towards?
All frontline healthcare staff in acute care who are involved in the management of poisoned patients. Doctors, nurses, pharmacists in fields such as Emergency Medicine, intensive care, pre-hospital emergency medicine, paediatrics and internal medicine.

Is it a series of boring lectures?
No, the course will consist of 6x 1 hour sessions. A mixture of lectures and workshops designed to be interactive with case based discussions of key topics such as envenomation and cardiotoxic poisoning. See the full program here.

Who will be leading these interactive workshops?
All faculty members are practising consultant staff and fellows attached to the New South Wales Poisons Information Centre. If you ring the poison centre for expert medical advice these are the individuals you will speak to.

When and where?
The Royal on the Park Hotel Brisbane, Queensland on Saturday 7th May 2016, immediately following the TAPNA 2016 Scientific Meeting.

Meal breaks?
Morning tea and lunch will be provided as part of the course fee. Special dietary requests can be catered for if sufficient notice is given.

Do I have to prepare for the course?
An electronic course manual will be sent out approximately 4 weeks before the course commences and will contain a summary of some of the key areas that will be covered. Reading the manual will not ge a hugely onerous task, however further reading will be available for those who are extra keen. A USB stick will be given to those who complete the course with a number of articles covering many of the key points raised in the workshops.

"Complete the course" - So is there a formal assessment?
Sort of, you must complete a feedback sheet in regard to all of the sessions and return to a faculty member. If you do this successfully then you will receive a USB stick and a certificate of attendance.
