One Lung Ventilation Workshop

Cost: $250 Places are limited.
Faculty: Dr Shazia Mohammad, Texas Children's Hospital, USA
Location: Perth Room, Sofitel Melbourne on Collins

The Pediatric One Lung Ventilation workshop will provide a systematic framework for approaching children requiring one-lung ventilation. Trainees in adult anesthesiology are able to practice lung isolation techniques with higher frequency whereas pediatric anesthesiology trainees may only have limited experience based on institutional exposure. Furthermore, the increased complexity of pediatric one-lung ventilation, secondary to smaller airways, different-sized pediatric fiber optic scopes, multiple device choices for lung isolation, and the unique pathology in children, compounds this issue. All of these factors underscore the need for a formal curriculum to develop the skillset for lung isolation techniques in children. Our workshop aims to bridge this gap by providing comprehensive training. Moreover, we have invited faculty as instructors from different institutions to bring different perspectives and experiences to the workshop

Climate change is the single biggest health threat facing humanity, and healthcare is contributing to the problem.  But what can we do about it?  As paediatric anaesthetists, we have a responsibility to consider the harms we are causing to the planet, and to find ways to reduce that harm while providing excellent care to our patients.  Collaboration and knowledge sharing will help accelerate our understanding of the problems, and will assist us in finding some solutions to this enormous challenge.

Join us for a Sustainable Paediatric Anaesthesia workshop that will host a discussion of the current knowledge and knowledge gaps in sustainable paediatric anaesthesia, as well as an exploration of some of the barriers and enablers to implementing change
