Prof Suellen Walker

Suellen Walker is Professor of Paediatric Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine at UCL GOS Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, UK. Following her medical degree and anaesthetic training in Melbourne, Suellen held consultant posts in paediatric anaesthesia and pain medicine at Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne, and then Royal North Shore Hospital and Children's Hospital at Westmead. Following a Masters in Pain Management in Sydney, she moved to the UK in 2000 and obtained an MSc in Neuroscience, and PhD. 

Suellen is principal investigator in the UCL GOS ICH Paediatric Pain Research Group, and her research interests include translational laboratory and clinical studies evaluating developmental aspects of pain and analgesia, neonatal anaesthesia, long-term effects of early life pain and injury, and neuropathic pain. Her current clinical activities include paediatric acute and chronic pain medicine. She was a Foundation Diplomate of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, ANZCA in 1999, was Elected to Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Royal College of Anaesthetists, UK in 2016, and is the pain Section Editor for the journal Pediatric Anesthesia.  .

Dr Clyde Matava

Dr. Matava is a Staff Anesthesiologist at The Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto), SickKids and is also Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. He is the Associate Chief of Perioperative Services for Bioinformatics and the Director of Anesthesia Informatics, Innovation and Technology in the Department of Anesthesia at SickKids. 

Dr. Matava has created and designed several apps, won several teaching and innovation awards and grants. His clinical interests include airway management and regional anesthesia. His current work focuses on improving patient care, clinical and education outcomes using clinical informatics applied through big data and novel tools such as machine learning and virtual reality. He is also co-director of the SickKids’ and University of Toronto’s VR lab - CHISIL. He has served as the President of the Canadian Pediatric Anesthesia Society and currently serves as President-Elect on the Society for Technology in Anesthesia Board, and Chair on the Epic’s Specialty Steering Board.
