Show Me The Money

As authors, we all know how important it is to have the financial support necessary to pursue our craft. Grants and residencies can provide us with that much-needed assistance so we can focus on what really matters: writing great stories.

Grants are a fantastic way for authors to receive funding without having to pay back any money. There are many different types of grants available from government organisations to private foundations – some specifically tailored towards supporting emerging writers while others may be more general in nature.

This workshop will provide tips for finding grant opportunities, and unpack the anatomy of a grant application, including creative rationale, budgets, timeframes, biographies and finding support for your project.

Residency programs give authors the chance to not only get away from everyday distractions but also connect with fellow creatives within supportive communities where they’re able work independently at their own pace whilst receiving guidance when needed too.

With well-known residency options including Varuna the Writers House (NSW) and Peter Cowan Writers Centre (WA) - these, and lesser known opportunities, will be explored, including insights into the application process and how to increase your chances of being accepted.

Whether just starting out or already established within the industry, exploring various funding options will ultimately benefit every writer's career path if pursued diligently over time. Perseverance pays off when it comes to securing financial backing.
