Kaneana May studied Television Production at Charles Sturt University and went on to gain First Class Honours in Screenwriting. Her first job was a dream job – a Storyliner on a brand-new Channel Seven program, Headland. Kaneana later moved to the script departments of All Saints and then Home and Away. Kaneana worked ‘in-house’ on the production and also became a freelance script writer. 

Since becoming a mother, Kaneana has turned her attention to fiction writing. Her books are The One and All we have is now.

Scriptwriting Kickstart

You love story on the page, but you also love story on the screen. Want to learn the basics about the power of screenwriting? Kaneana May’s ‘Scriptwriting Kickstart’ workshop will provide you with the foundations to turn your ideas into compelling scripts. 

This workshop is designed for those eager to dip their toes into a new format. What are the main differences about novel writing versus scriptwriting? How do you set out a script? What changes and considerations need to be made when writing for a visual medium? Kaneana will guide you in the first steps to bring your screenwriting dreams to life. 

A script is a blueprint for a visual and auditory medium. It provides essential information to both cast and crew. Adhering to industry standards by using the correct layout with font, margins, character, dialogue and scene headings will give your script credibility and allow you to get the attention it deserves.  

Novelists are required to makes changes in narrative pacing. We will look at using concise descriptions and effective dialogue. Kaneana will delve into the art of crafting scenes that drive the story forward with maximum impact, ensuring your narrative remains engaged and visually compelling. 

This workshop will look at how you can best adapt your work to the screen. You will gain understanding of the choices, constraints, and creative freedoms that adaptable entails. You will have the opportunity to explore the cinematic qualities of your narrative ideas and take away knowledge in how you can let them shine through with skilful storytelling and visual techniques. 

Whether you’re looking to adapt something you’ve already written, or coming with a new idea, this workshop will provide you with essential knowledge to bring your stories to life on the screen. Let’s make it happen!
