Cheryl Adnams

Cheryl Adnams has published four Australian rural romance novels and four Australian historical novels. For her "day job" she has been a learning facilitator and designer with a lean towards information technology. Trove of Treasures

Trove is a collaboration between the National Library of Australia and hundreds of partner organisations around Australia. Trove can be used to search for images, DVDs, books (yes, yours too!) and music to both borrow and buy. Trove also provides online access to multiple Australian newspapers, magazines, gazettes, research papers, letters and diaries.

The Trove newspaper and magazine search function is probably one of the most important tools an author can utilise. Need to know how much it cost to rent a flat in Sydney in 1939? Want to read articles about events that hit the front page of The Canberra Times or the Geraldton Guardian during World War 2? What was on the wireless on June 18 1936 at 7pm? How about viewing every single page of every single copy of The Australian Women's Weekly?

Since Trove is so massive, Cheryl aims to limit this session to showing you how to effectively search the newspapers and gazettes space with examples of searching techniques. Bring your research needs along with your laptop and spend some time practicing searching, or just come along to see some of the weird and wonderful articles and treasures Trove holds. You may just come up with a new story idea!
