CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS: 27 MARCH

The online abstract submission process is now open and you are invited to submit your work for presentation at the 2015 Toxicology and Poisons Network Australasia (TAPNA) Scientific Meeting, being held in The Menzies Hotel Sydney, New South Wales from 1–2 May 2015. The closing date for submissions is close of business 27th March 2015.
Oral presentations of free papers that are accepted will be presented during the free paper session of the 1 day scientific programme. Those not accepted for oral presentation may be accepted as poster presentations.

The top ranked poster presentations will be asked to give a 5 minute oral presentation outlining a summary of the work detailed on the poster. There will be prizes available for the best ranked posters.

All abstracts are peer-reviewed and ranked on the basis of scientific merit. The Program Committee will use these rankings to develop the final program. Not all abstracts will necessarily be accepted for presentation.
At the time of submitting your abstract the data must not have already appeared in print (it is OK for data to have been accepted for publication). If the research presented was supported by a commercial organization, a statement identifying this support must be submitted. If the research involved human subjects, it must have been approved by your institutional review board or Human Ethics Committee and conform to international standards of ethical practice. Animal research must have been approved by an appropriate Review Board and conform to the highest standards of human care. An author of any abstract selected for participation on the program must attend the meeting and pay the relevant registration fee.

ABSTRACT DETAILS:

Please make clear if the paper is being submitted for oral or poster presentation, or both. Those accepted for oral presentation do not need to generate a poster. If authors indicate “both” then if the abstract is not accepted as an oral presentation then it may be accepted as a poster. The following guidelines outline the instructions for abstract submission.

The title should be brief, but adequate to clearly identify the nature of the study.
The title must be in UPPER CASE. Authors’ names should follow immediately after the title.
The name and contact details of the author who will present the abstract, if selected, must appear on the abstract.
The name and location(s) where the work was undertaken must also appear.
The body of the abstract should be no more than 350 words. Words beyond that limit will be removed prior to
review.

The abstract needs to be uploaded as a WORD Document using the following formatting:
•     All writing to be submitted in Arial.
•     HEADING IN UPPERCASE
•     Authors in 11 point font. The presenting author to be underlined. Authors should appear with Surname, First Name
•     Affiliations to be listed under the authors and italicised
•     Body of abstract to be in 11 point font and single spacing used.
•     If you have references, DO NOT USE styles to insert them, list them in the body of the text.

The abstract should contain the following:
a) a brief background and a maximum of two sentences stating the study’s objectives;
b) a brief statement of methods used;
c) a summary of the results - including a brief comment on statistical methods, and key outcome data;
d) a brief discussion indicating the implications of the findings
(NB it is not satisfactory to state, “the results will be discussed”)

CASE REPORTS:

Case reports may be submitted for either poster presentation OR for the 'interesting cases' oral presentation session. If selected for the latter, an expert panel will discuss the case in conjunction with clinical input from the presenter and questions relevant to the case from the audience.
Case report abstracts should include the following sections :
a)      introduction
b)      case summary
c)      brief summary of discussion

THEMES:

We encourage abstracts to be presented on any topic relevant to poisoning/toxicology. In particular abstracts are welcomed with a particular theme of :
- Controversies in poisoning
- New or novel poisonings
- Poison centre based data

PRIZES

The organisers of TAPNA are pleased to announce that we have secured two prizes relating to the poster submissions for TAPNA.

These will be awarded as follows:

$400 for the best poster original research - this will be awarded to the best poster that presents original research, either clinical or non-clinical studies, but not case reports.

$100 for the TAPNA best poster case report - this will be awarded to the best poster of a case report.
