From the Board of Directors of Brain Injury Australia Limited.
Friday 27th March 2026
Statement from the Board of Brain Injury Australia: National Brain Injury Conference 2026 has been cancelled.
The Board of Brain Injury Australia regrets to announce that the National Brain Injury Conference 2026 – which was to be held in Sydney in November 2026 – has been cancelled.
Following the sudden and tragic passing of BIA’s Executive Officer, Mr Nick Rushworth, in January, the Board has determined that BIA needs to take time to review our strategic directions.
We will ensure our current advocacy continues for our brain injury community with over 700,000 affected Australians, has on‑going representation and that we meet our commitments in Nick’s absence.
We are aware that many will be disappointed, and so is the Board.
We are dedicated to maintaining the vision of BIA, now 40 years old, which is to be the voice of brain injury, to advocate, provide credible information and awareness about brain injury, and influence policy and research directions.
Our planning will include future opportunities to engage with our community on the many issues we need to address together.
We thank you for your understanding in this matter.
Dr Mukesh Haikerwal AC
A/g Chief Executive Officer
Brain Injury Australia.
