Project Manager for UNSW Microbiome Research Centre’s MothersBabies Study

Naomi Strout is the Project Manager for UNSW Microbiome Research Centre’s MothersBabies Study, a nationwide preconception and birth cohort study. She has extensive experience working with children from birth to 18 years of age, across both the public and private sectors allowing her to fully develop a holistic approach to family-centred healthcare. Prior to her current role, Naomi has nursed in paediatric clinical trials, oncology/haematology unit, neonatal intensive care (NICU) and adolescent health, as well as across all areas of midwifery including antenatal clinic, birth unit, and the postnatal ward. 

Naomi is currently the Chair of the Clinical Research Nurse Faculty for the Australian College of Nursing, a member of the Babies Born to Mothers with COVID Working Group, supervises Honours Students (Medicine, Medical Science) and continues to work within maternity services at St George Hospital around her research workload. She also comments on the maternal-infant microbiome in consumer platforms such as The Conversation, ABC Radio, Women’s Health Magazine, Australian Breastfeeding Association and various LHD in-services across NSW.
