This day is designed to bring SPANZA researchers together to discuss ideas, the pathway to turning them into a reality and to host a ‘think tank’ of ideas.

2024 Research Grant Winners

At the 2024 SPANZA ASM in Melbourne, we were proud to present to two fantastic Research projects:

A$20,000 was awarded to: 

  • Dr James Broadbent: Development of high-fidelity 3D printed tracheae for infant CICO rescue and shared airway training.
    • Objectives are to develop high fidelity 3D printed tracheae which can be incorporated into currently available simulation mannequins for training purposes: 
    • Infant CICO-rescue model
    • Paediatric trachea for multidisciplinary inhaled foreign body removal workshops
    • Operable paediatric trachea incorporating dynamic pathology including inflatable tracheal cyst and tracheal web
  • Associate Professor Paul-Lee Archer: Wearable technology for the measurement of post-operative outcomes in children undergoing Ear, Nose and Throat surgery. 
    • The overarching aim of this study is to improve outcomes for children who require ENT surgery by exploring the use of wearable technology for monitoring children's post-operative recovery. The objectives of this study are to
    • Evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of wearable devices to objectively monitor children recovering from ENT surgery.
    • To explore the feasibility of developing a pain assessment algorithm by examining the correlation between data from wearable devices with parent and child reported pain scores, physical activity and sleep.
    • Characterise and describe the recovery to baseline activity, sleep and pain intensity for children undergoing ENT surgery

Registrations for the 2025 Paediatric Anaesthesia Research Meeting are now open. 
SPANZA is proud to support furthering research in the field of paediatric anaesthesia. The meeting is being held in person and zoom access will also be available. Each person attending the meeting needs to complete their own registration.

Costs:

FACE-TO-FACE

  • Medical Attendee: $330.00 AUD inc GST
  • Trainee, Nurse, Technician, Scientists, Coordinator, Student or Allied Health: $80.00 AUD inc GST

VIRTUAL

  • Medical Attendee: $150.00 AUD inc GST
  • Trainee, Nurse, Technician, Scientists, Coordinator, Student or Allied Health: $45.00 AUD inc GST

How To Register

Each person attending the conference needs to complete their own online registration form by clicking the link below. This includes invited speakers, chairpersons and all other delegates. Please read the information on this website carefully before completing the online registration form. Registration will only be confirmed on receipt of payment. 

PAYMENT OF FEES

Payment of fees can be made by credit card (MasterCard, AMEX and Visa only) or direct deposit (please ensure remittance advice is emailed to meetings@spanza.org.au). Visa, MasterCard or AMEX payments are subject to a 2.2% merchant fee. Please note that all fees are in AUD include GST.   

CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS

Cancellations must be notified in writing to the Secretariat. Cancellations received:

(a) Within 8 weeks of the conference, You will receive a full refund of monies actually received, less a cancellation fee of AUD$150
(b) Within 4 weeks of the conference, You will receive a refund of one half of monies actually received
(c) Within 2 weeks of the conference, You have no entitlement to a refund of any amount

INSURANCE
SPANZA strongly recommends that you take out insurance for your travel and attendance at the meeting. SPANZA cannot accept any responsibility
for participants failing to arrange their own insurance.

Terms and Conditions: 

All guests will be paying direct to the hotel unless otherwise specified. At the time of booking, a valid credit card or deposit for the total of the first night's accommodation charge will be required. All guests will be responsible for the payment of their own incidental charges unless otherwise specified.

All remaining charges will be processed upon arrival in addition to a $100 per night bond and proof of photo ID will be required. All bookings will have a 24-hour cancellation policy.


PROJECT SUBMISSION

If you would like to present a project for discussion at the Paediatric Anaesthesia Regional Meeting, please submit via the link below. Your submission must consist of a title and a brief 300 word synopsis about your project. 

Deadline: Sunday the 3 of August at 11:59pm AEDT.
